So, the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority report says that MPs should have a pay rise of 11% to roughly £75,000.
Wow. Just, wow.
Now at the other end of the scale is the rest of the public servants like myself who have been told that our cost of living pay increases have been stopped. That's cost of living NOT pay raise. That's the very minimum pay increase to keep us in line with basic living essentials, you know like for eating and heating.
But, yeah it's totally fair that we should be in real terms be getting paid less each year and have to tighten our belts more and more.
Oh, silly me though, the report also says that it'll reduce the benefits and expenses claims that MPs can currently claim. Such as the £15 meal and taxi allowance for late evening sittings at Parliament. Of course it's also meant to be putting a stop to expense candles, because now of course MPs will be paid a decent way so that they can of course live normal respectable lives. It'll also stop ridiculous redundancy packages.
Except it won't.
Not really, they'll negotiate their large redundancy pay outs, they'll still find a way to diddle their expenses. The only difference will be that they'll also be getting a larger normal pay.
Of course the real winner here is David "Call Me Dave" Cameron, he can publicly decry the pay increase and thus gain support with the peasants while at the same time say there isn't anything he can really do to stop the pay raise and get himself a nice little pay rise!
