Of Next Gen Games
I would just like to say that I am delighted with the recent generation of games High Definition graphics and high end surround sound audio, so involving are these that it almost feel like your there. Although if I could just take this chance to say a few things;
Games of recent have been too short. I know that there's a whole drive to make games for the "casual gamer"* these days, but this sort of thing is just stupid. For example my friend, Ginner, has just bought “Army of Two”. After about four hours of play, hold on let me just reiterate that for you, after just four hours, yes just four measly hours of play, he was left slightly miffed as to why he'd shelled out about £10 per hour of play for this, with the game offering no replay value; well apart from playing on "Super Hard Level" which lets face it isn't worth it as all that ever happens on these settings is that you're made weaker and the bad guys are artificially beefed up to do/take more damage their AI ect still stays the same. The thing is too much time and effort is put into making pretty graphics and nice sounds, when things like game play and longevity are ignored, or at least put on the back burner.
With the price of games rising and production values matching that of films why can't we have a proper gaming experience? Why do they have to finish so early, prematurely ejaculating in our faces like an over eager teenager having his first sexual experience round the back of the bike shed?
And what's with all this bollocks about making games episodic, with the whole "to be continued..." thing going on? For example I recently played Cryteks computer crippling game Crysis. Just as I was warming up and settling into the game the story was building with all sorts of shit about to go down, I was just getting into a “here we go we're about to begin proper now that we've got all the plot down we can get on with some serious arse kicking” mindset when alas the end credits started to roll, leaving me feeling somewhat confused and befuddled, where was my closure damn it. Games makers you don't need to leave a "cliff hanger" to get us to buy games and their sequels, just make your games as long as they should be, if the sequels are any good we'll buy them. See the Metal Gear series on how to do sequels. Each game is an individual game in its own right, but the interesting characters ect carry over; don't split up one game into several parts to make even more money from us.
*Casual gamer = Wants to play games that require no long term time commitments to play game and/or require little to no skill to play. Think of someone like your mum.
