Jazz Metal?

The message came at 17.38. I was just chilling out and relaxing at home. It was inviting me out to the Gas Works to see a rock band, fair enough I get quiet a few of these (ok only a few), however this one was touting the strange combonation of Metal and Jazz with a tag line from the sender imploring me to come and see the bass player as the are apparantly The Shit.
This was something that I would really like to take a look at. Unfortunaly I'd already promised Drew and Ian I'd meet them at Spectre sound to buy a acoustic bass, and I don't let down people when I've said I'd do something. However the band sounded good, plus She might be there. I resolved to go find a decent guitar go jam with the guys make sure all my shit was water tight then leave.

However Spectre sound didn't have any decent guitars that I was looking for. So I made my excuses with the guys headed home and caught the next train into town. Met the lovely lass who had sent me the message. chatted for a bit I looked round with a sinking in my gut She wasn't here. Oh well at least I was going to see a decent band.
Several drinks later I got into that frame of mind, just concentrating on the band, then She walks in and it all goes out the window.
The rest of the night is a blur I remember I don't get to enjoy the band as she stands next to me and we make small talk, later we go to the bar and again talk. I know this sounds like it's going well but it wasn't I was making a complete tit of myself and she was smiling and bearing it.
Shit I've got fucked up over a woman who probably only thinks of me as a friend again haven't I.

Hey Wallz, I cant comment on your success, or lack thereof, with women, but I CAN comment on jazz metal!

What were the band called that you went to see? I went to see Dillinger Escape Plan play Fibbers Barfly in York a few years back and their support band were jazz metal. Or jazzcore. Or something. They were called 'Ephel Duath'. They were a bit sloppy live and the fibbers' PA wasnt helping them along either, but when i checked them out on CD - WOW!

Fusing the two genres seems odd, but if you think about it extreme hardcore metal and extreme jazz have a lot of things in common:

-complex ryhthms
-virtuosity
-progressive/unconventional tonality
-speed
-non-linear structure.

In fact the two genres fit so well together i am amzed that no-one thought of it earlier! Checkout 'The Painter's Pallette' by Ephel Duath and you'll see what i mean. Beautiful. :)

That last comment was me btw. The site did a doodoo on me and i couldnt enter my name etc.

Yes! I do know what your on about as it was indeed Ephel Duath that I went to see.
They seemed pretty good live although a few bum notes and things were to be had. They're Italian apparantly.
Crazy stuff just as they get to a guitar solo part they launch into jazz it's ace

Bugger bugger bugger! I have missed their entire tour :( Unless i go to Middlesbrough tomorrow night. Hmm not likely!
